The Australian-American Fulbright Commission offers scholarships to Australian citizens across all career stages. Awardees take part in an academic and cultural exchange, pursuing research or study at a U.S. institution, experiencing life abroad and bringing back their knowledge and experience to share with their communities in Australia.

A prestigious annual scholarship program, to recognise the many contributions by Anne Wexler for her role in fostering Australian-American relations, was announced by the Australian Government on 15 August 2009.


The scholarship will enable an Australian Postgraduate student with strong academic credentials and leadership potential to undertake a two years Master’s degree in the U.S. in an area that supports Wexler’s binational interests in the field of Public Policy.

Scholarship Benefits
All the applicants will receive the following benefits:
  • Living allowance for the duration of course (02 years)
  • Tuition allowance

  • Health and Accident coverage (ASPE) to maximum of US$100,000 (applicant only)

Eligibility criteria
Applicants are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Must be an Australian citizen 
  • Do not hold dual US-Australian citizenship or U.S. permanent residency (Green Card)
  • Must residing in Australia at the time of application except applicants serving overseas in the Armed Forces, Australian diplomats posted overseas. Applicants who are on vacation/work commitments at the time of application may still apply
  • Must be able to travel on a valid Australian passport
  • Must not have already commenced studies/research in the U.S
  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Anne Wexler applicants will be required to pass GRE testing, dependent on host institution requirements
  • Acceptance to a U.S. institution is not required at the time of application
  • Must be willing to consider up to four institution
Application Requirements
Applicants are required to submit the following documents with application:
  • Academic degrees and transcripts
  • Copy of passport
  • Names, contact details of two references
  • GRE/GMAT Testing, if required by host institute
Application Procedure
Applications must be completed and submitted via the online portal. Applications emailed or posted to the Commission cannot be considered. The online portal can be accessed via the Australian instructions PDF.
