YouthHubAfrica 2021 Female Genital Mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation is a form of gender inequality, violation of women and girls rights and it is internationally recognized as a violation of human rights. Despite concerted efforts to curb it, the practice continues among many ethnic groups, especially in Africa, as it is based on myths and cultures passed from generation to generation. The technology enabled Innovation Competition is an activity on the Strengthening Youth Advocacies to End Female Genital Mutilation across Africa project. It seeks to tap into the creativity and innovation of young people on the continent to mobilize for change on ending female genital mutilation. The tech enabled innovation competition will be launched to harness the creativity of young people in finding solutions to the intersection of female genital mutilation and gender based violence. The project is implemented by YouthHubAfrica in partnership with African Youth Commission with support from the UNFPA/UNICEF joint programme to Eliminate Female Genital Mutilation. The competition will be a platform for young people from Africa who are using technology to build solutions that address the problem of female genital and gender based violence to: 1. Showcase their work 2. Network with other young innovators 3. Win prize money to further develop/scale up their work
