The SELT Exam is meant for candidates who wish to study, live and work in the UK. The test is not meant for international students applying for courses like bachelor, master and doctoral programmes. Such students can sit for alternative English proficiency tests like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE etc.

SELT is meant for international applicants who wish to prove their English language skills such as:

  • Applicants who wish to join their family, extend a stay or apply for citizenship in the UK may need to take 2-skills, that is, Speaking and Listening. This includes spouse/partner, parent of a dependent, settlement/permanent residency and naturalization.
  • Job applicants in the UK may need to take 2-skills (Speaking & Listening) or 4-skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking). This includes Representative of an Overseas Business visa, Sportsperson (long term) visa, Skilled Worker visa, Skilled Work: Health and Care visa, Ministers of Religion visa, Innovator visa and Start-up visa.
  • Applicants looking to study in the UK may need to take a 4-skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking for student visa below degree level.

Exam Structure

SELT Results

Each candidate is allocated a unique registration number that they can use to check their results. Students require a unique registration number (URN) and date of birth to check the results. Results for the test are received within 5 days.
